Fun Sunday

Today was a super busy day.  I made a cake for one of Terry’s co-workers son for his 7th birthday.  He had an army theme party.  So, I was asked to make a camouflaged cake.  I was SUPER worried that I couldn’t pull it off.  :)  The cake is fudge marble with green coloring for parts of the batter, so when they cut into the cake, it’s also camo.  The frosting is vanilla and chocolate butter cream.  I made the road out of graham crackers, but had a hard time writing Happy Birthday in frosting over it, so I added fondant to improvise and wrote on the fondant with a edible food marker.  The only things not edible are the toys that the mom provided.  This was a pretty neat cake to make.

I hope they were happy with the cake.  I thought it was cute.

After that, Skylar got him a much needed hair cut.

Up to no good  funny- no smile

He cracks me up when I take his pictures…  He’s either making a mean face, a sweet face….or I just burn down the house face.

Sunday Wrap up…

Sunday was my Niece Piper’s Christening and what better yet, than have her big brother’s Rex and Zeb singing a song for her in church.  It was the cutest thing and I wished I had it on video.  I did take a couple pictures before I slaved in the kitchen with my mom and sister Mely.  Just kidding, they slaved in the kitchen and I cut all the bananas and washed the grapes for the chocolate fountain.  :)  My part was harder, I know.  Tough job.

Rex and Zeb singing They were truly adorable.

After Piper’s reception, I met up with my girlfriends for a long over due get together at the Village Tavern in W-S.  We all chatted it up and you know, I have no pictures of us girls.  UGH….  About 2 hours into our brunch/happy hour, 2 of the hubbies showed up and not empty handed.  I finally got to meet Baby Hunter.  Katie’s son who was born 3 weeks ago.

Hunter was too cute and sweet for his mommy.

Then we have Skylar’s twin Logan.  Twin, in saying they are the exact same child in their mannerisms and playfulness.  Skylar always came home with bruises, bumps, scrapes…from daycare, so it made me laugh when I saw her.  Yep….twins.

When I got home, this is what I had waiting on me.  :)  If you’re wondering, we always put grenadine in our coronas…yum!

Family time…

We had a great Easter Sunday hanging out with our family.  We ate, laughed, wrecked a golf cart into another family member’s truck, ate, hid eggs…  yep, you heard me correctly.  It was a wild Sunday.  :)

Some of you on FB might have see these pictures, but here they are again for those who don’t get on FB.

My niece Piper is really growing fast and is oh so beautiful.  She still has her blue eyes and her skin is light.  She definitely doesn’t look Asian.  Skylar finally will have someone that looks like him on the Mathis Side, lol.

Not sure why Skylar loved wearing this helmet.  That crazy kid of mine!  He wore it most of the day and wanted to wear it home as well.  Boys…

Dragon…

Two weekends ago, Skylar went to see his first real movie in the theater, How to Train Your Dragon.  He loved it and so did I actually.  It was about 2 hours long and Skylar sat through it all, except for the last 20 to 30 minutes.  He had to go to the bathroom and wouldn’t use the bathrooms there.  I think he’s scared of public bathrooms, so he will hold it if he has to.  I hate that.  :)  So, he would sit there and watch for 2 minutes and then tell me he had to go to the bathroom.  So, I sort of missed the last 20 minutes of the movie.

Side note-We are definitely potty trained.  We do put pull ups on him at night and 5 nights out of 7, he wakes up dry.  He doesn’t wear pull ups during nap time at daycare either, so that’s great.

Anyways, Skylar loves dragons, dinosaurs, sharks, fish….  and so when he woke up Easter Sunday, he was very happy!

Success…

cake

I got good reviews at our Easter function.  Well, except for my niece.  She mentioned that I left the cake out too long, because the flowers were hard, lol.  Just so you know, royal Icing dries hard immediately when the air hits it.  :)  It’s great for flowers, writing and leaves.  It’s pure sugar really.  She’s so funny.

Cakes

I have finished my 2nd cake course and below is my finale cake.  The thing was, my last class was today and Terry left to go to Marion with Skylar, so I could go to my class and run errands in peace.  Well….As I was getting ready to walk out the door, I couldn’t find my keys.  This is normal for me, so I didn’t think anything of it when I was looking everywhere for them.  After frantically searching everywhere, I decided to call Terry (he was already a mile from the Marion exit at this point) and sure enough, he had my keys in Skylar’s bag.  Of course he had my spare keys as well.  So, I didn’t learn all the things that I was supposed to learn today, like the basket weave technique, the rope border and flower assembly.

Considering all that, I think my cake turned out nicely, even though I had to basically just look at the book for instructions. I love making flowers though!!  It’s so much fun!

(The cake is french vanilla, with almond/vanilla white, yellow and green butter cream frosting with a chocolate ganache filling.  The flowers are royal icing and the butter fly is color flow icing.)

Also, this past Thursday was the Relay for Life cake raffle, that Terry signed me up for at his work….ugh!  I don’t mind making cakes (practice cakes, as I call them) for my family and friends, but this was for a cake raffle.  So, that means people were…. gasp….bidding for my cake.  To my surprise, I came in 3rd place. 1st place sold for 70 dollars, (carrot cake from Maxi B Bakery), 2nd place sold for 60 dollars (German Chocolate cake that was bought by 2 people) and 3rd place was me!!!  It sold for 40 dollars.  I was ecstatic!!  I was just hoping that someone would have bid on it, so they didn’t give it back to Terry at the end of the day.  I used some of the flowers that I have been making for my class.  (I mean, I made a ton….so why not use them.)  The person who bought it, has her mother coming in this weekend for Easter.  She’s a breast cancer survivor, so this cake fit perfectly for them.  I hope they like it.  I’m biting my nails on this one.

Recent Pics

We didn’t think it would be as hot as it was and didn’t think about the sunscreen until later and well…Skylar is what you call….WHITE.  Or Fair skin, lol.  I never have to worry about this.  If I ever got burned, it would be my nose.  My hubby on the other hand….he turns into a lobster as well.  Like father like son, right?

Here are a few pictures from the park yesterday.  Also, this was pre-sun burn.
