Cakes

I have finished my 2nd cake course and below is my finale cake.  The thing was, my last class was today and Terry left to go to Marion with Skylar, so I could go to my class and run errands in peace.  Well….As I was getting ready to walk out the door, I couldn’t find my keys.  This is normal for me, so I didn’t think anything of it when I was looking everywhere for them.  After frantically searching everywhere, I decided to call Terry (he was already a mile from the Marion exit at this point) and sure enough, he had my keys in Skylar’s bag.  Of course he had my spare keys as well.  So, I didn’t learn all the things that I was supposed to learn today, like the basket weave technique, the rope border and flower assembly.

Considering all that, I think my cake turned out nicely, even though I had to basically just look at the book for instructions. I love making flowers though!!  It’s so much fun!

(The cake is french vanilla, with almond/vanilla white, yellow and green butter cream frosting with a chocolate ganache filling.  The flowers are royal icing and the butter fly is color flow icing.)

Also, this past Thursday was the Relay for Life cake raffle, that Terry signed me up for at his work….ugh!  I don’t mind making cakes (practice cakes, as I call them) for my family and friends, but this was for a cake raffle.  So, that means people were…. gasp….bidding for my cake.  To my surprise, I came in 3rd place. 1st place sold for 70 dollars, (carrot cake from Maxi B Bakery), 2nd place sold for 60 dollars (German Chocolate cake that was bought by 2 people) and 3rd place was me!!!  It sold for 40 dollars.  I was ecstatic!!  I was just hoping that someone would have bid on it, so they didn’t give it back to Terry at the end of the day.  I used some of the flowers that I have been making for my class.  (I mean, I made a ton….so why not use them.)  The person who bought it, has her mother coming in this weekend for Easter.  She’s a breast cancer survivor, so this cake fit perfectly for them.  I hope they like it.  I’m biting my nails on this one.
